Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach, is a novella about a seagulls journey to understand life and flight, and a lesson on self-improvement. Originally a series of short stories in Flying magazine in the 1960s, it was first published as a book in 1970. By the end of 1972, over a million copies were sold. The book topped the New York Times Best Seller list for 37 weeks and was a bestseller in the US in 1972 and 1973. In 2014, a new edition with an additional 17-page fourth part was released as Jonathan Livingston Seagull: The Complete Edition.
